Stefano de PaoliI joined the Department of Sociology and the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis at NUI Maynooth as Post-Doctoral Fellow in 2008, working on a research project that seeks to investigate the “next generation networks and communications” and “users’ innovations”. I am conducting this work within an interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of Dr. Aphra Kerr.

Currently we are engaged in empirical research around two main themes: Trust [as it relates to the Internet] and Cheating in Massive Multiplayer Online Games.

I graduated (Cum Laude) in 2004 with a Master’s degree (laurea quadriennale) in Sociology and in 2008 I was awarded a PhD in Information Systems and Organizations both from University of Trento in Italy. My doctoral dissertation entitled Software, Copyright and Licensing Practice is a Science and Technology study that investigates the power relationships that are shaped around software licenses. This work has been supervised by Professor Vincenzo D’Andrea and Professor Giovan Francesco Lanzara. In general, although my general background is that of a sociologist I am especially interested in the inter-relations between Science and Technology Studies, Computer Science, Sociology and Information Systems.

I have also previously lectured “Information Technology and Intellectual Property” at the Department of Engineering and Information Science at University of Trento (Italy), as assistant of Professor D’Andrea.
